Recycling
TXU has been active in developing commercial markets for fly ash, bottom ash and other lignite coal combustion byproducts. Marine mammals at Sea World of Texas in San Antonio swim in pools made with fly ash from lignite plants. New homes are constructed using wallboard made from synthetic gypsum, a form of fly ash. Texas Interstate 30 near Sulphur Springs, Texas was repaved using bottom ash from TXU lignite power plants. Lignite byproducts are also used to manufacture roofing shingles, pavestones and airport runways. Our recycling efforts don't stop there. Each year TXU prints more than 500,000 customer information pieces, almost 23 million residential bill inserts and almost 300,000 annual reports on recycled paper. Other recycling efforts include:
