Clean Water

drip Water is used for power plant cooling much the same way it's used in an automobile engine. As a result, TXU is the largest private owner of reservoirs in Texas. The company operates 19 dams and reservoirs in Texas, totaling more than 546,000 acre-feet of water.

To guarantee its quality, we closely monitor and test the water we use in a plant for cooling and other purposes. TXU’s commitment to clean water has led us to an overall water compliance ratio in 1999 of 99.9 percent. Also, 1999 marked the seventh straight year that the company achieved an outstanding water-quality compliance record.

When it comes to planning for the future, TXU remains an extremely active participant with representation on four different regional water planning committees. Their goal is to prepare plans to meet the state's water needs.

TXU's power plant lakes provide more than one million visitors annually an opportunity to camp, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. For more information, visit Texas Parks and Wildlife.
