Gall Resistant Coating
From: Roger Turley Dave, In your absence I test assembled the coated bearing carrier in the stainless steel bearing housing. I ran this trial with a shaft and bearings installed plus all o-rings and isolator. The idea was to as closely duplicate regular maintenance as possible. The bearing housing was positioned horizontally (as would be done in the field). I assembled the power end twice. That in and of itself tells you a lot. I carefully inspected the bearing carrier and housing after each fit-up and found nothing to give me pause. I later check the carrier for size and found it near the middle of the tolerance. After the second test fit-up, I noticed a small nick in the carrier and a small drag-scratch where the burr from the nick dragged in the tight pilot fit. This would have been the perfect chance for the material to gall. It didn't. Based on the two fit-ups and my personal observations I think we have a winner. Congratulations.
