Luminant has recently completed life cycle testing to determine how many cycles the PlasmaBond® lubricant would last for both tensioned and torqued fasteners until re-application was necessary. The testing for a tensioned fastener was conducted under prototypical plant conditions, with studs tensioned and heated (625 F) for fifteen (15) cycles. The PlasmaBond-coated fasteners were successfully removed each cycle, and the data showed the engineered lubricant actually performed better as the test continued. In addition, the PlasmaBond lubricant was also cycle-tested with respect to torqued applications. These fasteners were aggressively loaded to approximately 90% of the yield stress. Torqued fasteners were successfully removed after 8 cycles.
