Nuclear Applications
The overwhelming results from testing indicate that PlasmaBond® is equivalent or superior in performance and overall effectiveness to any other lubricant currently used in the commercial nuclear field. PlasmaBond®-coated threaded fasteners are now accepted by Westinghouse for use without the aid of any other lubricant. Operation and maintenance cost savings have been realized through less frequent maintenance, easier disassembly, fewer repairs of galling-related damage, extension of component life and — for nuclear applications — associated reductions in personnel exposure to radiation. In tensioned applications, our testing shows that PlasmaBond® may last the life of the plant, but we recommend an inspection of the studs and bolting every other cycle to ensure the coating's integrity.
- Elimination of cost of standard lubricant (e.g., Felpro, Neolube, etc.)
- Elimination of cost of man-power to clean and lubricate components (e.g., RV studs)
- Eliminate man-rem exposure (ALARA) associated with cleaning and lubrication
- Eliminate cost associated with radwaste disposal/storage of removed lubricant
- Eliminate maintenance costs to address components with frequent galling problems
