Fires, floods, water failures and a range of other calamites happen every day and, for businesses that are unprepared, can cause significant work interruptions. Because providing electricity to millions of consumers is not something we will allow to be interrupted, TXU has spent years developing and refining contingency plans that ensure our ability to serve consumers after any one of several natural or man-made disasters. Whether a fire destroys one of our work locations, a pandemic threatens the health of our workforce or a flood puts city streets under water, we’re ready to adapt, adjust and continue serving the electricity needs of our customers.
Since the late ‘90s, the World Health Organization has been tracking a new strain of the Avian Flu that they believe may evolve into a dangerous human flu virus. On average, there are three outbreaks of a new, lethal flu virus every century that infect millions of people around the world. The US Department of Homeland Security invited TXU to participate in a Avian Flu pandemic workshop in 2005 and since that time, we have been developing and implementing a plan to protect our workforce and continue producing and distributing electricity to our customers.
TXU depends on hundreds of key suppliers who must also be ready to withstand a global pandemic. In February, 2007, TXU introduced the looming threat and our pandemic plans to key suppliers.
