2004 Corporate Citizen Report
DIVERSITY: Best Practices in Action
As TXU competes in the Texas electric market, it is transforming itself into a world-class industrial company.
Diversity within the work force and supplier base of our communities is a distinct competitive advantage
that is helping us achieve our goals of high human performance, operational excellence and market leadership.
Work-Force Diversity
TXU recognizes the value of having a diverse work force.
Creating and maintaining an environment where differences
are valued and respected enhances TXU’s ability to recruit
and retain the best talent in the marketplace. As TXU
continues to promote and maintain an environment that
fosters creativity, productivity and mutual respect, the
company becomes the employer of choice by recognizing
and using the value that each individual brings to the
workplace. The importance of diversity at TXU was
evidenced in 1996 by its chief executive’s appointment of
an officer-level Diversity Steering Committee to provide
oversight and direction to diversity initiatives. Under the
direction of the current steering committee, TXU adopted a
business plan for work-force diversity in 2004 that is a
blueprint for continuing diversity initiatives and developing
and implementing new initiatives. TXU recognizes that the
right thing to do with respect to diversity is also the right
thing to do for long-term financial success.

Suppliers like The Warrior Group, whose owner, right, meets with a TXU
representative, are helping TXU achieve operational excellence.
Supplier Diversity
Since 1991, TXU has been a leading supporter of supplier
diversity, committed to the development and use of
companies owned and operated by women and minorities.
A progressive initiative in this area broadens the economic
vitality and prosperity of communities. Affording all
qualified suppliers an opportunity to participate in the
procurement and sourcing process makes good business
sense and contributes to TXU’s corporate journey toward
being a leading high-performance industrial company.
In 2004, TXU’s expenditures with diverse suppliers were
more than $250 million, bringing cumulative spending
since 1991 with companies owned by women and
minorities to over $2.3 billion.
As a result of these efforts, TXU’s supplier diversity
initiative was recognized in 2004 by the Women’s
Business Enterprise National Council as one of America’s
Top Corporations for Women Business Enterprises, and
TXU received Corporation of the Year awards from the
Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Business Council and the
Women’s Business Council-Southwest. Other awards for
this thriving program are listed in the awards section.
