Emission Rate Comparison
In the following graphs, TXU’s generation and emission rates for NOx, SO2 and CO2 are compared with those of the top 30 electric generators in the United States. To make these comparisons, the top 30 U.S. electric companies were identified based on total electric generation from fossil fuels only (coal, natural gas and oil). This information came from data provided to the EPA from Continuous Emission Monitoring equipment for electric generating units and was obtained from the EPA Appendix B Emissions Scorecard 2003 database. These data were used to calculate emission rates for each of the top 30 generators. 2003 data were the most recent available.

TXU is one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity using fossil fuels. Only six other companies had higher fossil fuel generation than TXU in 2003. TXU ranked 28th out of 30 companies in fossil NOx emission rate in 2003. TXU ranked 20th out of the top 30 companies in fossil CO2 emission rate in 2003. TXU ranked 16th out of the top 30 companies in fossil 202 emission rate in 2003.
